p.s., so what does the gnome-shell(api) mean?
It's a virtual provide for situations like this. Gnome Shell has an api
version and plugins need to know that they have a compatible api. There
are a wide variety of virtual provides like this.
This computer is still on F42 and this is what I get:
# dnf repoquery --provides gnome-shell
gnome-shell(api) = 48
The full list has various other virtual provides as well.
