Fair enough, but you could do a "dd" of the specific drive partition
that's a problem.

It's avoiding the issue, though (of what's causing it).

Perhaps it's the carrier?

But you may have to go through what you've installed and how you've
configured it with a fine tooth comb to look for something that's self-
destructive.

Perhaps some command you're using to modify something has a wrong
device/drivename and is operating on the wrong thing?  Or a typo
turning a read into a write?
