usual folders ('Documents','Downloads',...) when I opened dolphin in
plasma 6.6.
This Thunderbird folder is empty and I see nothing entering with my
usual simple mail usage. I also cannot find any reference to it in the
thunderbird settings or with a (not) very detailed web search.
Does anybody have info why this folder is visible and what it's function
is.

Are you referring to something other than the "~/.thuinderbird/" directory?
