Downloading from https://wordnet.princeton.edu/ I managed to
build the binary "wn", but not the tcl-tk browser.
I had to set the hard-coded location of the wordnet dictionary directory
to /usr/share/wordnet-3.0/ (which is where the fedora package puts stuff).
I don't really care about the tk browers.
I also downloaded from https://wordnet.princeton.edu/ the 3.1 version data set
and it works with the 3.0 version "wn" I built.
Just a note, the "wn" I built looks for the data set in /usr/share/wordnet-3.0/
and does not segfault. The "wn" from the fedora package download does segfault
(after generating the correct definition on the screen).

So, a working wordnet is no longer available?
The wordnet package has been failing to build from source for some
time. There is a pull request to fix that:
https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/wordnet/pull-request/2
I don't know if that would also fix the segfault you are seeing or
not. CCing the package maintainers to see if they need some help.
