Reboot after updates just stopped. No spinning of indicator and no response. Only power to reboot. Watch next boot, and it got to dracut-initqueue with 3s/unlimited showing, but again never moved? Tried older kernels, they did same thing. Could boot to my G4L kernel, and it worked fine. Checked the other partition, and the btrfs check and all came back as good. Had a full disk image of the 1.8T disk from 2 days earlier, and other than the updates nothing really changed. Restore the 160G disk image to the 1.8T disk, and booted fine. Ran updates, and this time it rebooted fine.
Did research and it came up a a btrfs issue linked to the firmware on the Crucial T500. Now the strange parts. Found ISO that is suppose to fix it. unzip -l T500-P8CR004-ISO.zip Archive: T500-P8CR004-ISO.zip Length Date Time Name --------- ---------- ----- ---- 26214400 09-09-2024 07:59 T500_P8CR004.iso --------- ------- 26214400 1 file Extracted and copied to usb, but it would not boot. Worked with google ai and claude.ai trying all kinds of options, and validate it was a hybrid syslinux 4.05 setup, and had what should have worked. Others had reported issue as well. but got no where. Eventual solution from google ai that worked. Extracted data within the ISO to actually get to the actual firmware files. core_extracted/opt/firmware# ls -lR .: total 4 -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 113 Sep 8 2024 firmware.properties drwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 10 Jul 17 22:28 P8CR004 ./P8CR004: total 2512 -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 2572288 Sep 8 2024 1.bin went thru a process that was able to update the firmware, so now have the latest firmware? /dev/nvme0n1 /dev/ng0n1 241047785F9C CT2000T500SSD8 0x1 2.00 TB / 2.00 TB 512 B + 0 B P8CR004 Seems the fwupdmgr could not upgrade the firmware since crucial isn't in that process? This is what I now get. Believe before it was just showing CT500 so that has changed. fwupdmgr update Devices with the latest available firmware version: • System Firmware • UEFI CA • UEFI dbx Devices with no available firmware updates: • Windows Production PCA • CT2000T500SSD8 • KEK CA • Key Exchange Key • Option ROM UEFI CA • TPM • UEFI DB So, got it fixed, but was a lot of steps. Not sure why they have an ISO that doesn't work. So, perhaps others might have similar setup. Since it is a know problem and the updated firmware is suppose to fix it? Will have to see. Is a much faster device than older one. unbuffered 1622.67 MB/sec compared to older one that was about 500MB. Dell Latitude 5580U without latest nvme so notebook is limiting issue.
