I upgraded last night and I did an update this morning. That should cover it. But I think I am closer to the solution now. The issue is bash-completion now uses a new dynamic completion loading feature in bash (option -D to complete I think). Hence all the mess with my customisations. -- Suvayu Open source is the future.
