After updating to the current kernel, the system fails to boot, and gets stuck on a frozen plymouth screen. The gdm login screen fails to come up. CTRL-ALT-Fx does not work.

If I bail out of plymouth with Esc, early enough, I see the following during the tail end of the boot process. I can switch to CTRL-ALT-Fx and capturing.

Rolling back to the last 3.9.9 kernel, and the system boots fine.
