I believe these are enabled by default, I think you must've disabled
them at some point.

Good catch, it looks like the documentation didn't get updated when it
was split into two different preferences:

Works for me any Geany forever. Are you closing Geany properly, not
crashing it by logging out/shutting down with it still running?
