You have limited options on Pi OS (Buster) in my view: (1) Find a repository that has the latest version for ARM (ask on Pi forums?), add it to /etc/apt/sources.list or an entry in /etc/apt/sources.list.d, then do sudo apt update, then search for 'geany', then sudo apt install geany (the package might contain the version number, but not usually in my experience)
(2) Clone the GitHub repo and follow the instructions (https://github.com/geany/geany#installation-from-sources).
