Then I will either provide the filename as an argument to the script and
have presets per product class or I will provide the version as an
argument and build the filename with that in the script.

You can't query the files metadata from a provision script. I just keep
the current version number and the filename in the script itself and
modify the script whenever there's a new firmware or config file.
