Hi Aniruddha,

Hope you have gone thru the document
https://github.com/Juniper/contrail-controller/wiki/Simple-Gateway

Can you check following,

  1. Spawn a VM in public VN and see if gateway works for it.
  2. The document gives packet flows. Using this, can you identify where
packets are being dropped.

There is no need to configure SNAT for this feature.

Regards,
Praveen

Subject: Need help please | Accessing a VM using a floating-ip on
devStack-opencontrail setup

Hi all,

I am working on setting up OpenContail with OpenStack and want to evaluate this
combination for NFV use cases.

Though currently I am trying to make basic scenarios work but facing problem
and need your expert help.

Setup is in place with all services up and I am able boot virtual m/c.

I have tried following scenarios:

  1. Inter-VM communication:

     * Two VMs, in same virtual network, are able to communicate via private
IP [working]
  1. Two VMs, in different virtual network, are able to communicate via
floating IP. [working]

  1. External Network <--> VM communication:

     * VM is not able to ping external network; ICMP response, is not getting
routed to host m/c to routing instance. [NOT working]
  1. Steps to reproduce the scenario:

     * Create a private network and subnet [10.10.10.0/24] on OpenStack
Horizon.
  1. Create a public network and subnet [172.18.15.30/27] on OpenStack Horizon.

  1. Same IPs range [172.18.15.30/27] is configured for vgw in
CONTRAIL_VGW_PUBLIC_SUBNET.

     * Boot a VM on OpenStack Horizon
     * Create a floating IP from public network on OpenStack Horizon
     * Associate the floating IP to VM
  1. Ping an IP on external network [172.18.15.30/27]

  1. Can you please help in resolving this issue?

     * Do I need to configure the something on Contrail UI, which I have not
done as Contrail UI in my setup is not working?
     * Do I need to enable SNAT as described in
https://techwiki.juniper.net/Documentation/Contrail/Contrail_Controller_Feature_Guide/Configuration/70_Source_Network_Address_Translation_%28SNAT%29
  1. si there something else that I am missing?

Regards,
Aniruddha
