Hi Chris, I had similar issues as well on a 2.10-39 install on Ubuntu 14.04.2, what allowed me to go all the way was installing the following packages (especially Java 7 instead of 6) and downgrading tzdata and libelf1 packages (which you already did apparently) : apt-get install zookeeper cassandra openjdk-7-jre-headless tzdata-java tzdata=2014i-0ubuntu0.14.04 apt-get install kdump-tools makedumpfile libdw1 libelf1=0.158-0ubuntu5.1
