Dear Brent,
Currently the only way to specify the VM name in Sunstone is from the
Virtual Machines view, clicking on "New +", selecting the template and
providing a name for the new VM. In the CLI you can provide the --name
parameter for onetemplate instantiate.
Feel free to open a request on http://dev.opennebula.org if you think the
default behaviour should be changed so we can have a closer look to it.
Hope it helps,
Hector

I also experience the same scenario while using the Sunstone interface.
I have configured a private cloud for a group of developers and they
only have the ability to use the web UI for instantiating the VM's. Is
there a way to have Sunstone launch and report the name of the template
they launched rather than the one-xx name?
Thanks,
Brent Stantz
