We have some clusters using overlay2 and some using devicemapper (lvm). We
haven't noticed much difference in terms of performance. I will admit
though that disk performance isn't really something we're very focused on,
so take my observation with a grain of salt.

We are now opting more for using overlay2 though. Our reasons being that
monitoring capacity with devicemapper is less transparent and changing the
capacity is a more complex process with devicemapper than with overlay2.
Supposedly disk caching and disk space usage is also more efficient with
overlay2.
