Dear Iris, you didn't provide enough information for an accurate reply: which compile did you use to compile QE and the full output of the problematic calculation (you can find it in the "result" subdirectory of the example). If you are using the default compilers from ubuntu (gcc and gfortran) be aware that the phonon code is often miscompiled by gfortran, giving strange and random errors.
