Gnuplot can produce publication-quality pictures, if you know how (I don't). Grace (http://plasma-gate.weizmann.ac.il/Grace/) reads the same data as gnuplot, has a graphical interface and is somewhat easier to use. There are some nice graphical interfaces for QE, but they are commercial products.
