Ah - discovered why it remaps eth0 -> eth1. In /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules it embeds the MAC address of my Pi.
So you need to remove that file or edit it with your own MAC address, which you can discover using 'dmesg |grep Ethernet' To get something like this: smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0: eth0: register 'smsc95xx' at usb-bcm2708_usb-1.1, smsc95xx USB 2.0 Ethernet, b8:27:eb:bd:2e:0f Easiest way is just to delete /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and then reboot. It will recreate the file with your correct details included. This should fix the eth0 -> eth1 issue. Thanks for the details Matthew!
