RedSleeve 6 Release is now available. Since it proved itself stable and trouble free over the past two years, it is no longer labelled a test release.

The repositories have been re-arranged. The packages that were previously available, including all the previous updates are now in the "base" repository. These should be very stable and have been thoroughly tested.

The new updates are in the "update" repository. There are about 25GB of newly updated packages, which should make it level with the upstream distribution on almost all applicable packages.

There is still an "extra" repository with a few extra packages, which is disabled by default. The repository file is in the redsleeve-release package, and the packages are signed, but they can cause dependency issues, so only use this repository only if you are completely certain you need a package from it due to a dependency for something else you are developing.

EPEL packages are in a separate "epel" repository as they have been before.

You can update your existing system by doing the following:

# yum update redsleeve-release
# yum install epel-release

You may want to clean up your /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory of left-over repository files that aren't owned by the release packages. Then do:

# yum update

All packages are now signed, and the release files contain the public keys. The repository now uses mirror lists which should help speed up the download process. The mirrors are currently updating, so please consider waiting a few hours before you begin updating your systems.

You may also find of interest is the complete list of modified packages and the details of modifications required, including the patches where appropriate. This is available on the wiki:

Please, do spread the word. :)
