Well I finally realized why no history for user root.

/root/.bash_history is linked to /dev/null

What is the reason for this? Is it for security reasons?

Yes.

What is the security vulnerablity?

How do I remove this link and create a regular .bash_history file?

You aren't seriously asking this question on a list for a Linux distro that _really_ isn't for Linux newbies, are you?

rm /root/.bash_history
touch /root/.bash_history

No excuse. I have a bad cold/virus and am not up to reasonable functioning. And I had my flu shot a couple weeks ago...

Obvious, though I wonder how the system manages when you delete the history, what does it do with the command to do that? Does it create the history to store it at that time and the touch is not needed? Is it better to do this from another user with sudo? Kind of like cutting a leg out from underneigh a chair? Just my fevorish meanderings...
