I see your point with the proposal.
Actually I find https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi_Quick_Install_Guide this guide quite useful. Extending it a little and if you could also tar the rootfs'es, then you could make people choose disk system if they follow the guide, or they could go with 1 or 2 pre-made roofs+boot's.
