Can you try out using the Exchange/IMAP server with a *stable* version of
RC, and let us know how you get on?

I'm intrigued - correct me if I'm wrong - but I've never seen Exchange run
under Linux. Am I just being ignorant?

It's just a generic internal error. You'd need to get your hands on more
verbose logging - try increasing the sensitivity of the error logs, and
check out what's going mail-server-side.
