First, I freely admit I'm not familiar with the attachment code.  But I'd guess
some kind of expansion is going on given the numbers you're posting.  How many
recipients?  Recipients * attachment_size * message_body_size * php_overhead =
??  If it's only one recipient, I've not idea other than processing expansion,
which seems quite high, given over 32MB being used for a 2MB attachment, that's
16x overhead.

Just a thought.
