In svn-trunk it works if browser supports HTML5 placeholders.
I haven't been watching this thread too closely and so I could be wrong
but I think some, if not most, of the issues may simply be configuration
ones.
I have a working LDAP config with Round Cube and have no trouble
updating or creating records.
I'm happy to share my config if it would be useful
