It is freeware and open source. No, Kolab does not work on Windows as it
uses components like postfix or cyrus-imap. The Calendar plugin itself
should work on Windows, but the point is to have the whole suite with
Activesync/DAV components, right? And these will not work without Kolab
(at least not without heavy changes in code).

Yes. There's also commercial version with support from
http://kolabsystems.com and hosted service at http://kolabnow.com.
