I've been using Audacious for some time. Nice GUI, but not very stable.
Contrary to popular belief, XMMS is not a dead project, except there's
not much more to do. I'm running a beefed-up version of XMMS, with some
addition plugins for playing WMA, MPC and the likes. I can throw
playlists of 20.000+ songs at it, in every possible format. It's just
never failed me, never froze, never even the slightest hiccup. Plus, it
produces playlist files that MPD and K3B can read.
