You're probably right about this. Most likely it was at least partially a coincidence. I should point out that, after recovering the system, when I tried it again, it trashed my whole root directory, after bad blocks checks and file system cleanup. I find that rather odd, too, but I agree that libdvdcss is probably not the culprit. Not so sure about k3b, though. Maybe they tied it in more closely to kde?
