If we create two settings.xml files, do they typically both go in the /conf
directory (with different names of course) or does the second file go in a
completely different directory? Also, will we always have to use the -s
option?  For example, if we name the one we use 99% of the time
"settings.xml" and the one with certain lesser used alternate settings
"settings-rare.xml", will the one named settings.xml get picked up by
default unless overridden by the "-s settings-rare.xml" command line
argument?

Maven 2.0.9 is what we were looking to upgrade to a few months back, but
that got back burnered and now I know there are releases in the 2.1.x range. 
Is 2.0.9 a good, safe, first upgrade from 2.0.5 or would you recommend
jumping straight to the latest version?
