I don't know if that problem is going to be solve on M2 (Maven 2), but currently there are no plans to fix it yet on Maven 1. But there is an issue opend on Jira already: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MPARTIFACT-18 I haven't had the time yet to work on the solution I proposed, but I'm planning to do something in the next weeks.
