Hi Brett,
I read the readme.txt file also the getting started guide available in
the url http://maven.apache.org/maven2/getting-started.html
Tried with
m2 archetype:create -DgroupId=com.mycompany.app -DartifactId=my-app\
this ended up with the error exceptions too.(Exception is listed below)
I believe unless it understands m2 as specified in the readme.txt file,
this won't work and that's why I posted the first question. Hope my
thinking isn't wrong.

Are you running this on a project, or just in a new directory?
You should read the getting started guide, which shows how to start a
new project and do a few things, step by step.
