Documentation under these circumstances is not always the best idea. Also, we do have design docs in various places (APT sources, Confluence @ docs.codehaus.org, MAVEN space, and in JIRA filed with relevant issue).
The last point I'd make is that we could use some help. There is a critical mass of work to be handled here, wherein if we don't focus on some to the detriment of the rest, we will never be able to get 2.0-final out the door, because new feature requests will flood in faster than we can organize feature sets for release. I suppose it's a nice problem to have, being popular. But this is an open source project, and needs volunteers to help deal with this increasing popularity...the simple fact is that - all idealism aside - we *don't* have the spare cycles to get everything done Right Now.
