site.xml documentation is there : http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-site.html

So, I have a hierarchy of Maven builds. I was hoping, that the site I generated from the top would contain links to the sub-sites. Looks like that does not happen by default, all I get from the "top" layer is a site that is about the top layer pom (not very interesting, really). So I wondered: OK, let me go a bit deeper. Ah, I see, there is something called a site.xml that seems like it will let me do a bit more with the site. Unfortunately, the documentation for this is non-existent. It says it replaces the Maven 1.0 navigation.xml, but it doesn't give any reference for it, or description of how it supposed to be used. Is there anyway someone could help me? Is there better documentation anywhere out there about "site.xml". Is it the same format or different from "navigation.xml"? How do I get nice links to all the several sub-projects (and some of them have children too)? Thanks for the help.
