IDEA is a product of a company which charges money for the IDE. Thus
it by definition does not have as many customers as a free product
like Netbeans and Eclipse. So your possible pool of developers who not
only use IDEA but -also- use Maven2 -and- have the desire and ability
write/support a plugin for IDEA is suddenly very small, a handful of
people in the entire world.

There's also the perspective that, as a customer of IDEA, you should
-demand- that IntelliJ add this support to their IDE themselves. If
your paid-for IDE does not support all of your development
requirements, then you might want to look elsewhere.

For these reasons and more, I'm not surprised that the IDEA plugin is
not up to your expectations...
