SCP user ID's

If I try to publish a project without username/password configured for 
SCP in settings.xml, I get a significant number of username/password 
requests in a row (presumably for several trips to the server) that show 
my password in plain text on the screen. However, if I configure 
passwords in my settings.xml, I have my logins sitting completely wide 
open in a text file on my machine.

Are there any plans on the horizon for allowing this information to be 
secured?
