Mvn -X give some informations, but not much about this problem :

Environment:
 -Windows XP
 -My local repositories is local (C:\M2LocalRepository) and is empty
 -frmlefsi20 is a corporate SAN 
 -frcf1hdu10 is a users NT domain server

Apparently the UNC environment variable isn't correctly parsed : 
\\frmlefsi20\inet_dev\DEVPLATFORM\maven-2.0.4
Is transformed in :
C:\frmlefsi20\inet_dev\DEVPLATFORM\maven-2.0.4

I'm going to open a Jira file.
