I am trying to create an upload bundle for a new project (http:// innig.net/software/sweetxml/), and am running into this bug:

    http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MREPOSITORY-3

I have some build configuration (stuff like source path) that's shared by several subprojects, so I've factored it up into a parent POM. When I try to package that parent POM for release:

    mvn repository:bundle-create

...I get this message:

Packaging cannot be POM when creating an upload bundle.

This bug, marked "Major", has been open for very nearly a year. I'm guessing that if it's been open for that long, there must be a workaround.... Any suggestions?

Or perhaps I can circumvent this problem. Is there a better way than the parent POM to be sharing config across projects?

I'm a newcomer to Maven, and love many of its features -- but I have to agree with Howard Lewis Ship's comment about it:

"Maybe 20% of the time, I don't feel that I'm using a tool so much as appeasing a petty god."

Indeed.

Cheers,

Paul
