And doing so is likely to get your IP address banned from being able to access 
repo1.maven.org.    That would definitely not be cool for you.

If you NEED to create a mirror, there are rsync instructions at the bottom of:
http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-mirror-settings.html
You should definitely use rsync, not wget.

Note: the current size is approaching 11GB, not 6G.
