I agree. I'm using an old patched version of Archiva to support maven 1 and 2. I made the effort to use it because I wanted to have the functionality of proxy but also the one of hosting repo (uploads, ...). I planed to spend some time to work on archiva this summer to help Joakim to have a good support for both maven 1 and maven 2.
