You might want to check the junit 4.0 jar itself to make sure there isn't some weird problem in the archive. I know some people have had weird problems when they were using a mis-configured mirror, resulting in some .jar and .pom files being HTML 404 error text rather than the proper content. So it may be that the junit jar on this machine is simply corrupt.
