Gerard,

Use an exclusion like such:

                <dependency>
                        <groupId>org.acegisecurity</groupId>
                        <artifactId>acegi-security</artifactId>
                        <version>1.0.3</version>
                        <scope>compile</scope>
                        <exclusions>
                                <exclusion>
                                        <groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
                                        <artifactId>spring-remoting</artifactId>
                                </exclusion>
                                <exclusion>
                                        <groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
                                        <artifactId>spring-support</artifactId>
                                </exclusion>
                                <exclusion>
                                        <groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
                                        <artifactId>spring-web</artifactId>
                                </exclusion>
                                <exclusion>
                                        <groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
                                        <artifactId>spring-webmvc</artifactId>
                                </exclusion>
                        </exclusions>
                </dependency>
