Jack this is a critical point in my 2.0.8 distro located at $M2_HOME/archetype/pom.xml I have this maven2.0 I have the following profile configuration.. <project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/maven-v4_0_0.xsd"> <modelVersion>4.0.0</modelVersion> ...parentPoms etc.. <profiles> <profile> <id>maven2.0</id //which contains the dependency.. <dependency> <groupId>commons-collections</groupId> <artifactId>commons-collections</artifactId> <version>3.2</version> </dependency> does this confirm your understanding ?
