I don't know what the m2eclipse plugin is supposed to do, but actually it
works this way for me:
I have a Maven project with only JUnit 3.8.2 as a dependency. After
checking the "Download Artifact Sources" and "Download Javadoc" checkboxes
and running the "Maven -> Update Dependencies" action simply nothing
happens. However after running the "Maven -> Download Sources" action the
JUnit source jar AND the Javadoc is downloaded and correctly attached to
the junit jar.

Cheers,
Ole

Now I am confused. The "download sources" checkbox supposed to download
sources automatically when you run "Maven / Update Dependencies" action or
when that action is executed in other cases, like on first project import.
The action like "Maven / Download Sources" is completely independent from
that checkbox.
