My guess is that the problem is related to libxml2, and the way it uses
libiconv (for charset encoding conversion). You are using libxml2 v2.2.
Upgrade to at least v2.6. If that succeeds then (hopefully) so should the
compilation.

 While you are at it, you may also want to upgrade libiconv to v2.4 before
updating libxml2, and see if that helps.
