Mbuni always generates the notification and hands over to Kannel to do the message (SMS) splitting. Your Kannel config must therefore be the source of the problem re concatenation.

   I shortened the FQDN to just the IP address of the server, and that
seemed to work (it still truncated some characters, but it sent enough
   through that the nokia was able to retrieve the message.
   I guess I'm wondering, how come mbuni didn't just generate a
   concatenated SMS if it couldn't fit everything in a single PDU?

   Thanks!

I looked through my kannel.conf file and didn't see anything glaringly wrong with it

group = core
admin-port = 13000
wapbox-port = 13002
smsbox-port = 13001
admin-password = bar
wdp-interface-name = "*"
log-file = "/var/log/kannel/bearerbox.log"
log-level = 0

group = smsc
smsc = at
modemtype = falcom
device = /dev/ttyUSB0
speed = 115200
#keepalive = 30
log-file = "/var/log/kannel/smsc.log"
log-level=0

#group = smsc
#smsc = fake
#port = 13080

group = wapbox
bearerbox-host = 127.0.0.1
log-file = "/var/log/kannel/wapbox.log"

group = smsbox
bearerbox-host = 127.0.0.1
sendsms-port = 13013
log-file = "/var/log/kannel/smsbox.log"
global-sender = 9999999

group = sendsms-user
username = foo
password = bar

group = ppg
ppg-url = /wappush
ppg-port = 8080
concurrent-pushes = 100
users = 1024
trusted-pi = true

group = wap-push-user
wap-push-user = foo
ppg-username = foo
ppg-password = bar

group = modems
id = falcom
name = "Falcom"
speed = 115200
#detect-string = SIEMENS
init-string = "AT+CNMI=1,2,2,2,1;+CMEE=2"
enable-hwhs = "AT\\Q0"
#reset-string = ATZ
#no-smsc = true

Then my mbuni.conf file is as follows:

group = core
log-file = /var/log/kannel/mmsgw.log
log-level = 0
access-log = /var/log/kannel/mms-access.log

group = mbuni
name = gentuni
hostname = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx #sanitized
storage-directory = /var/spool/mbuni
sendsms-url = http://localhost:13013/cgi-bin/sendsms
sendsms-username = foo
sendsms-password = bar
mms-port = 8191
content-adaptation = false
mms-notify-text = "YOU HAS MMS"
local-prefixes = 1;7xx;5xx #sanitized
maximum-send-attempts = 2 #FIXME: THIS NEEDS TO BE REMOVED FOR PRODUCTION
default-message-expiry = 86400
#optimize-notification-size = true #FIXME: testing only...

group = send-mms-user
username = foo
password = bar
faked-sender = foo

group = mmsproxy
name = "PROXY"
host = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx #sanitized

I REALLY appreciate all the help people have offered...

I added that, but it's still truncating the MMS Content Location in the PDU that is sent... (here is the most recent attempt, decoded)

'\x00Q\x00\n\x81\x07SP\x81(\x00\x04\xa7\x87\x06\x05\x04\x0b\x84#\xf0\x01\x06\x03\xbe\xaf\x84\x8c\x82\x98-qf1855.1.x287.38\x00\x8d\x90\x89\x19\x80208.54.94.118/TYPE=IPv4\x00\x96Mmmmm... Yummy\x00\x8a\x80\x8e\x02t"\x88\x05\x81\x03\x01Q$\x83http://208.xx.xx.xx:8191/qf1855.1.x287.3'

You can see that it only sent one PDU, and that the download location was still truncated...
