documentation on panelLayout (forinstance)

hi, just starting to dive into myfaces example to understand how to 
generate my own application and the it wasn't long before i came across 
the myfaces panelLayout extension.

found the taglib doc, but it is more of a "reference guide" than a "user 
guide", is there any documentation on how to use this guy?

or is the name of the game attempting to figure out how to use it with 
just clues provided in taglib doc?

it looks pretty good in terms of a base layout and it seems like the jsf 
way to use such a component rather than handcraft my own layout using 
raw html...
