IMO mailing lists are superior to the forums. I'm very frustrated by the JSF forum because its hard to have a quick back and forth exchange of ideas. The mailing lists are archived (my favorite is http://www.mail-archive.com) so they can be searched just like any forum.
web access anymore. If you ever used good ole usenet you know how much of a comfortability drop a forced web gateway is.
The comfortability drop is pretty much the same with going from a good dedicated mail client to a forced mail web access, it simply is unbearable. Web access always should be second option not first.
Fortunately for many lists good gateways exist, so the mailing list burden is eased.
I would recommend to get this list into one of those gateways (gmane probably would be the perfect choice since apache recommends it anyway)
Better suggestion, try to get this list into gmane, get a decent newsreader and do this list over usenet once it is covered.Suggestion, get a gmail account from Google. Right now its in beta but its basically finished and many people on the mailing lists use them (I sent you an invitation btw.) I only use my gmail account to subscribe to the mailing lists. I just keep a browser window open and check it periodically. Gmail has 1GB storage space and has all sorts of filters so you can cut down on unwanted messages. Plus the searching on gmail is great. With the 1 GB storage capacity of gmail, I find I don't have to go the archive very often to find what I need.
If you need access to older posts, try one of the numerous mailing list archivers on the net...
