I think we can make the lines connect. If you have padding between or within cells, however, then they obviously can't connect. I thought about this on the drive into work today and I think we can do this. If you turn off those default expand/collapse icons then you should provide your own through the JSP (see the tree2 example in latest CVS). Otherwise, how can you expand or collapse the tree.
