I did that but, when I tried to access the examples I get a "page not
found" page. I just downloaded and installed the tomcat 5.5.9. Copied
the myfaces-examples.war into the webapps folder and restarted tomcat. I
don't see a new folder myfaces-examples created under the webapps folder
(the war file is there).

place the myfaces-examples.war into the webapps directory of your tomcat
distribution. Then restart tomcat (/bin/startup.sh, or /bin/startup.bat
for Windows).
