It depends on what functionality you need. Shale Dialogs is, and will remain, a very simple integration with JSF that supports basic functionality for the dialog concept. If that is all you need, it'll work fine while requiring a shorter learning curve. On the other hand, if you need more sophisticated capabilities that SWF+JSF will support, then go for that. (And, of course, SWF+JSF will work fine with the rest of Shale also).
