Adding it to 426 should be fine. Just document what you're doing in the JIRA comment.

The format should prefereably be as a patch against the current most up-to-date SVN version (HEAD).

Generall you should create a JIRA, and attach the patch to it. It will be reviewed and if accepted, incorporated by one of the committers.
