I'm not _the_ expert as well, but can't you use the body onload to execute the backing bean methode to expand the tree. Or could a hidden input field at the bottom of the page to which you bind a method that handles the logic deal with it?

To show the tree2 expanded bind a htmlTree to the component. With this
you can use htmlTree.expandAll() to show the tree completely expanded.
